Step 2:
Change your direct deposits.
What you need
- A direct deposit form obtained from each company or organization that sends you direct deposits or the Direct Deposit Authorization Form offered by 1st Source Bank.
What to do
For this step, you will first need to determine which organizations send you direct deposits. Many people only receive direct deposits from their employer, but individual circumstances may vary. Once you know which companies or organizations send you direct deposits, you should reach out to those companies or organizations and learn what process they would like you to use to switch your direct deposits to go to your new 1st Source checking account and how long it will take to get switched.
While setting up direct deposits is between an individual and the companies or organizations that send them direct deposits, 1st Source Bank offers a Direct Deposit Authorization Form, which you can complete and offer to send to each company or organization sending you direct deposits. Please be aware that 1st Source Bank cannot guarantee that these forms will be accepted in every instance. Companies or organizations sending you direct deposits may require you to make these changes in person or by some other method, and they may require more or different information than what is contained on this form.
Social Security: To change your Social Security Administration direct deposit, call 800-772-1213 or visit socialsecurity.gov. You can find your routing and account numbers on your starter checks.
Step 3:
Change your automatic payments.
What you need
- An automatic payment authorization form from each company to whom you make automatic payments or 1st Source Bank’s Automatic Payment Change Authorization Form.
What to do
For this step, you will first need to determine which service providers you send automatic payments. This may include various utility providers such as electric, gas, or water, but individual circumstances may vary. Once you know which service providers you send automatic payments, you should reach out to those service providers and learn what process they would like you to use to switch your automatic payments to come from your new 1st Source checking account and how long it will take to get switched.

Step 4:
Stop using your old checking account.
What you need
- Nothing!
What to do
For this step, you will first need to transfer funds over from your old checking account to your new 1st Source checking account. When you do this, be sure to leave sufficient funds in your old checking account to cover any outstanding transactions.
Once that is done, start using your new 1st Source checking account for all your checking needs and stop using your old checking account. If you use a bill pay service through your old checking account provider, you may wish to switch to automatic payments (see step 3) or set up Bill Pay (available through online banking) to make payments from your new 1st Source checking account. It is recommended that you leave your old checking account open for approximately 30 days to allow time for any outstanding checks and payments to clear.
Step 5:
Close your old checking account.
What you need
- Nothing!
What to do
For this step, you will first need to ensure that any outstanding checks and payments associated with your old checking account have cleared. Once you are sure that no further transactions will take place involving your old checking account, reach out to your former checking account provider and ask them to close your old checking account.
